Over the past month we have been ramping up our community outreach and raising the awareness of Scarborough gas through our new campaign branding.
Dale the Whale made a splash at the Royal Show, where we collected around 1500 petition signatures calling on Perdaman to drop its contract with Woodside, and almost 100 people signed up to volunteer for the campaign! This was a huge effort which involved over twenty volunteers taking shifts over eight days – thank you so much to all of those involved.

We have also had a presence at the Victoria Park markets and Whiteman Park’s EnviroFEST. If you’d like to get involved with the community outreach team and join our stalls, get in touch!
Perdaman Petition & Actions
On September 15 we had our first action targeting Perdaman, a company which wants to build another chemical fertiliser plant on the Burrup Peninsula – using Scarborough gas to do so. We are calling on Perdaman to cancel its contract with Woodside, in order to not prop up Australia’s most polluting fossil fuel project. There are plenty of alternatives that Perdaman can pursue to avoid enabling this climate-wrecking and destructive development.
Take action now by emailing the chair of Perdaman!
Rally outside Perdaman – 15 September
The next Perdaman Wednesday is happening on Wednesday the 27th of October at 12pm. The address is 58 Mounts Bay Road, and is just across from the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Join the Facebook event for updates.
Selfless Orchestra Concert
350 Perth teamed up with Selfless Orchestra, the Conservation Council of W.A. (CCWA) & Stock Records to host a free concert at Planet Royale Theatre on Friday 8th of October, with Erasers Duo as the supporting act.
This gig was able to raise awareness of our urgent campaign in a fun and engaging way to a new audience. Selfless Orchestra delivered an outstanding performance which highlighted the impacts of Scarborough gas on the Murujuga rock art, the marine life in the Dampier Archipelago and our climate.
Thank you so much to all those involved!

Say NO to Scarborough Gas: Mobilise to Win!
On Sunday the 17th of October we held our mobilisation ‘town hall’ style event, where we gathered everyone in the same room to discuss how we can best utilise our skills, networks and capacity to supercharge the campaign and stop Scarborough gas!
‘Say NO to Scarborough gas: Mobilise to Win’ event – 17 October
After a fun icebreaker activity, we received a briefing from Maggie at CCWA about why we need to say NO to Scarborough gas, and an outline of our strategic campaign to prevent Woodside from making its final approval decision.
The majority of the event was spent in four break-out groups discussing how we can each help the campaign, and coming up with a strategy for the next eight weeks.
See below for more information on these streams of work and how you can get involved.
With over 65 people in attendance, this was a critical event to kickstart a rapid mobilisation of the Perth community against Scarborough gas.
If you’d like to join the movement, make sure you sign up to volunteer with us.
Upcoming Opportunities to Volunteer!
After the weekend’s mobilisation event, we have four different campaign teams and streams of work that you can get involved with:
- Community Outreach: helping to organise and run stalls in the community to raise awareness of this issue and grow the movement in Perth. This can also include phone banking (i.e. telephoning interested people to ask for their support) and data entry support!
- Business & Politics: reaching out to local businesses to gain their support for the ‘Say No to Scarborough gas’ campaign, as well as engaging politicians with this issue.
- Nuisance: organising and attending rallies and creative actions to bring attention to Woodside’s dirty fossil fuel project and calling out other companies involved, such as Perdaman.
- Online: raising awareness about the Scarborough gas campaign through social media engagement, as well as online tactics targeting Woodside and other companies
There is something for everyone to get involved with, so if you’re keen to join the movement, please sign up to volunteer and we’ll help you find the right group/role in the campaign!
We are continuing to run Scarborough Action Sessions on alternate Thursday evenings at City West Lotteries House from 6-8pm. At these sessions you can learn new skills, meet some wonderful like-minded people and make a difference to the campaign to keep Scarborough gas in the ground for a safe climate future.
.
Our next Scarborough Action Session will be on the 4th of November.
For those who would like more of a formal introduction to the “No Need for Scarborough Gas campaign” before getting involved, we are also running monthly welcome webinars on Zoom.
This is a great entry point for you if you would like more information before joining our campaign.
If you would like to join our next Welcome Webinar on the 3rd of November, sign up here.
There are plenty of ways to get involved, and we need all hands on deck if we’re going to have any chance of keeping Scarborough gas in the ground.
We look forward to having you join us!
