On Thursday 5th November the Western Australia Parliament will be debating the Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Bill. The Bill aims to:
- Immediately cap WA’s emissions at current levels
- Create a target of 100% renewable energy by 2030
- Create a target of net-zero emissions 2040
- Establish an independent State Climate Council to help drive WA’s response to climate change
We saw during COVID-19 that we can solve massive challenges and save lives when we listen to scientists and act together.
Right now, we have the opportunity to not only tackle the COVID-19 economic crisis, but also the climate crisis. We can reduce our emissions while at the same time creating thousands of green jobs and rebooting our local manufacturing.
If passed, this Bill will create thousands of green jobs, support our communities, and protect our environment – but it’s up to us as a community to make it happen.
Now is the time for our State Government to be bold. Now is the time to set a net-zero emissions target, drive renewable energy investment and establish an independent Climate Council to oversee the transition to a renewable economy. Now is the time for a WA Climate Change Act.
Come to the rally and show your support for WA’s own Climate Change Bill. The more people down at Parliament house, the stronger the message we send.
Date: Thursday 5th November
Time: 9:00 to 11:00 am
Place: Parliament Place, West Perth.
